Cheyenne Room Theater

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Home Theater Cheyenne. The most important component in your home theater sound system is not a speaker or a piece of electronics. It is your theater room. Surprised? Many people often are. But it is true. Countless books have been written on this subject. I have attend many ours of expensive training. Here, and in a following entry, I will give a brief synopsis of the issues involved.

The most critical issue for any home theater system is that of room modes. These room modes occur because the bass frequencies (20-200 hz) are longer than the room dimensions. Therefore these frequencies reflect off of the walls, back into the room, and mix with the original wavelength. When this happens, these bass frequencies will sum or cancel each other, causing peaks or valleys in the bass response in the room.

Home Theater Cheyenne. What can be done about the problem of room modes in home theaters? First, we can install absorptive materials. Second, we can place the speakers in the best position. And most importantly, we can design the room with the best dimensions. More than any other factor, room shape and size can impact the issue of room modes in home theaters.

Fort Collins Home Theater Room

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Home Theater Fort Collins. What is the most important component in a home theater sound system? If you said the room, then you are correct. This has been an area of much discussion and research. I have attended many hours of expensive training on this subject. Here, and in a article to come, I will give a brief synopsis of pertinent issues.

The biggest challenge for any home theater system is the problem of room modes. Room modes happen because the room is shorter than bass (20-200hz) wavelengths. Consequently, these bass frequencies are reflected back into the room where they mix with the original wavelength. This causes cancellation or mixing of these frequencies.

How do we deal with this problem of room modes? Most importantly, by designing the home theater room with the right dimensions. With the right shape, we can make big improvements in the sound of the room. We can also solve the room mode by installing absorptive materials and putting the speakers in the ideal locations.

In an upcoming article we will look at several other issues which pertain to the sound of the home theater system as influenced by the room itself.

Steamboat Theater Room

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Home Theater Steamboat Springs. The room is considered by many experts to be the significant part of a home theater system. Is that true? Absolutely. This is a challenging question and books are written on this subject. I have attended more than 30 hours of training on this subject. I will give a brief summary here and in an article to come.

The one of biggest issues for a home theater system is that of room modes. Bass frequencies, from 20 to 200 hz, are longer than most rooms. Rooms modes are the result of the reflection of these bass frequencies back in the room and mixing with the original wavelength. These frequencies are then canceled or added together in the room.

Home Theater Steamboat Springs. There are several ways to deal with this problem. More important than any other factor is the shape of the room. By designing the right room shape, we can improve the room mode issue. Other ways of dealing with this issue are installing absorptive materials and placing the speakers in the best locations.

In a following chapter, we will look at some other issues which affect a room’s sound.

Denver Theater Rooms

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Home Theater Denver. It has often been said that the room is the most important component in a home theater system. Why is that true? This questions requires a very long and complex answer. But I will try to give a brief summary here and in another entry coming soon.

The first issue is the problem of room modes. This is one of the toughest problems for a home theater system. Bass(20-200 hz) wave lengths are much longer than the average room. Room modes are the reflection of these bass frequencies back into the room and interfering with the original wave length. The result is summing or cancel of these frequencies in the room.

Home Theater Denver. There are several ways to deal with the problem of room modes. The most important has to do with the shape of the room. Other solutions include proper speaker placement and installing absorptive materials in the room.

Home Theater in Denver

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Home Theater Denver. When we are talking with our clients about TV sound in their living room, we are often asked how they can incorporate surround sound into the room.  The best answer is that you rarely can incorporate a true surround sound experience into a living room.  There is a very simple reason for this.  The living room is almost never designed with surround sound in mind.  That is because that room has a different and more important function, and it does not really include creating a theater like space.

Our advice is that you should instead focus on creating quality stereo sound in the living room.  There are design requirements for creating surround sound in a room.  If you ignore these, you will not succeed in creating a theater like audio environment.  If you desire a surround experience, then move that focus to another room, ideally a dedicated theater room.  If that is not feasible, then choose a location where the design of the room can include the required conditions for a home theater.  Give us a call for a consultation on where to best setup a surround sound environment in your home.

Home Theater Cheyenne Room Design

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Home Theater Cheyenne. When discussing room layout, we are often asked how to create a surround sound environment in living or great room.  The truth is that this can almost never be accomplished.  The reason for this is because the room has a different purpose.  The purpose of the room will dictate its design.  Unless a room is designed for surround sound, it will rarely succeed as a movie theater audio environment.

The best direction would be to create a quality stereo experience in the living room, and choose another room for the surround sound experience.  This room needs to be designed with surround sound in mind.  That does not mean it must be used exclusively for home theater.  It does mean that the chairs can be positioned in proper relationship to the video display and speakers.  It means that the speakers can be located in appropriate locations.  If you fail to take into account the design requirements of a surround sound environment, then you will not succeed in creating that movie theater experience.  Give us a call for a consultation about the opportunities your home can have.
